Hyaluronic acid (HA's) exists naturally in all living organisms and is a natural component of connective tissues, including the skin. Hyaluronic acid has been used to treat joint pain. The Restylane® and Juvéderm™ family of products are soft tissue fillers made of hyaluronic acid, manufactured by recombinant technology which adds volume to minimize wrinkles and lines.

As the substance naturally occurs in humans and all animals, allergic reactions are rare. Furthermore, if there is the rare lump or bump or "overfill", HA's can be easily removed by injecting an enzyme that rapidly dissolves the HA. There are several innovations to filler. We are now filling with the 3-D filling technique. We don't just fill the lines around the mouth or under the eyes, but rebuild the volume of the face that is lost with aging and weight loss. One of the best fillers for this is Juvéderm Voluma. Another innovation is using cannulas which minimize needle sticks, bruising and side effects.
