Collagen Replacement Therapy

Collagen replacement therapy is a safe, effective and non-surgical way to create fuller lips, smooth out facial wrinkles and scars, and improve the appearance of deep frown lines or furrowed brows.

Procedure:
Collagen is a natural protein that provides skin with texture and shape, and is responsible for the skin's durability and elasticity. Through the process of aging, the collagen in skin is depleted, causing wrinkles and lines to appear. Collagen replacement therapy is a method of replenishing collagen beneath the skin with injectable bovine collagen made of sterile, purified collagen from cow skin. The cow collagen is so similar to human collagen that the body readily accepts it as part of its own skin.

First, Dr. Stolar or Dr. Perkins will test the skin for any allergic reaction to bovine collagen. A small amount of collagen is injected into the forearm and observed over a period of a few weeks. (Less than one percent of patients is allergic to bovine collagen.) During treatment, Drs. Stolar or Perkins will use a very fine needle to inject the collagen beneath the skin's surface to plump or fill the depressed areas. The effects of collagen replacement therapy can be seen immediately, with little redness or swelling.
